A journey through the seasons

Spring

With its clear light and blossoming flowers, March is a favourite time to visit. Through April and May there can be rain showers but the temperature begins to feel like early summer.

Summer

From June to August, daytime temperatures of 25–30°C can be expected and the rain falls mostly at night. The lake, which stores the sun’s energy, dissolves gathering clouds which can sometimes cause thunderstorms over the lake. An awesome sight, usually visible in the evening and always visible from the balcony. The summer days are mostly moderately warm, with a few days rising over 30°C.

Autumn

In September and October it is usually still warm, with temperatures of about 26 °C. Towards the end of October and into November it generally gets cooler as the weather begins to change. This is the time to light the fireplace and relax on the terrace with a hot mug of tea or cocoa

Winter

The winter months are relatively mild, freezing temperatures and snow are rare. There is generally mild, cool and clear weather until the end of February. On some windless winter days you can even hear the bells of the church towers from the opposite towns of Oggebbio and Ghiffa more than 6 km away. The nights can become chilly but the warmth of the sun during the day makes up for it. This is the time when the lake seems most peaceful, with the serenity of the calm Lake Maggiore set below snow-capped mountains.

Campo Giglio Weather Forecast

The weather in the area is hard to predict and most weather reports beyond a day are rarely correct, especially in the summer. The size of Lake Maggiore and the Alps have a major impact on local weather. In general, the forecasts from local people are more reliable than any meteorological prediction, so if you can, speak to the people in the bakery or café in Germignaga or Luino if you’re planning a trip to the lake or to the mountains.

Overall, the forecasts of weather reports are more accurate in cooler periods than in the warm and changeable months. In winter it is mostly relatively dry and the precipitation already falls as snow in the mountains to the north. The snow melts in the spring and the water collects in the rivers of the valleys which then feed Lake Maggiore.
